Anne Frank House in Amsterdam replicates cramped rooms where Frank hid from Nazis.
“Anne Frank the Exhibition” is set to open in New York City, offering visitors a chance to step into the secret annex where Anne Frank penned her famous diary. The exhibit, a collaboration between the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam and the Center for Jewish History, will open on January 27, 2025, in Manhattan’s Union Square. Running until April 30, the exhibition will recreate the cramped hiding place where Frank and seven others sought refuge from the Nazis from 1942 to 1944.
Ronald Leopold, the executive director of the Anne Frank House, expressed the importance of bringing this experience to a wider audience. With over 1.2 million visitors annually at the Amsterdam site, the New York exhibit aims to reach those who cannot travel to Europe. Tickets for the exhibition are available for purchase online, offering a unique opportunity to connect with Anne Frank’s story and the emotional impact it carries.
While the Amsterdam annex remains empty as per Otto Frank’s wishes, the New York installation will feature lived-in spaces, including some original furnishings owned by the Frank family before the war. This approach is intended to engage a broader audience and provide a deeper connection to Anne Frank’s history.
The exhibit is expected to draw significant crowds due to its meticulous reconstruction of the secret annex. By offering a tangible experience of the cramped conditions and the emotional weight of the story, “Anne Frank the Exhibition” aims to educate and resonate with visitors on a personal level.
