Former Republican congressman Michael Grimm, who resigned in 2015 due to felony tax evasion, was paralyzed from the chest down in a polo accident in September.
Former U.S. representative Michael Grimm, known for his background as an F.B.I. agent and Marine, was recently paralyzed in a horseback riding accident during a polo competition. The incident, which occurred on September 22, was reported by his colleague Greg Kelly from Newsmax. Grimm, who had transitioned to a career as an on-air personality after resigning from Congress in 2015 due to tax fraud charges, underwent emergency surgery following the fall.
According to reports, Grimm, a Republican from Staten Island, was thrown from his horse during the tournament and suffered severe neck injuries, resulting in paralysis from the chest down. Vincent Ignizio, a friend of Grimm and former city councilman, confirmed the extent of his paralysis.
Grimm’s legal troubles began in 2014 when he was indicted for tax evasion related to unreported income from a restaurant he owned in Manhattan. Despite being re-elected to the House later that year, he eventually pleaded guilty to the charges, leading to his resignation from Congress and an eight-month prison sentence, of which he served seven months.
The news of Grimm’s tragic accident has sparked an outpouring of support and well-wishes from his colleagues and the community. As he faces this new challenge, many are rallying behind him and keeping him in their thoughts and prayers.
