Rex Heuermann has a court appearance scheduled, with investigators looking into potential connections to unsolved murders in Long Island.
Long Island investigators are set to announce a significant development in the Rex Heuermann case, the architectural consultant accused in the Gilgo Beach serial killings. The Suffolk County district attorney’s office will make the announcement after a 9:30 a.m. court hearing for Mr. Heuermann. Authorities have already charged him with the murders of six women, including one found in Southampton, and are working to secure indictments for five other victims found near Gilgo Beach. Only two victims have been identified so far, Valerie Mack and Karen Vergata. Investigators are trying to link Mr. Heuermann to a DNA profile of Ms. Mack. Her family has been in contact with Suffolk authorities and are processing emotions ahead of the Tuesday hearing.
