Marty Small Sr. and wife, superintendent of city schools, accused of assaulting teenage daughter.
Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small Sr. and his wife, La’Quetta Small, who is the superintendent of public schools in the city, have been indicted on charges related to the alleged abuse of their teenage daughter. The indictment, issued by a New Jersey grand jury, includes charges of endangering the welfare of a child in the second degree for both individuals. In addition, Mayor Small faces charges of third-degree aggravated assault and making terroristic threats.
The accusations stem from incidents of physical and emotional abuse that allegedly took place when their daughter was 15 and 16 years old. Prosecutors outlined a disturbing pattern of violence over a two-month period, culminating in January. The mayor is said to have used a broom to strike his daughter on the head until she lost consciousness in one instance. He also allegedly punched her repeatedly in the legs, causing bruises. Furthermore, Mrs. Small is accused of dragging her daughter by her hair and hitting her with a belt.
In response to the charges, Mayor Small’s attorney, Edwin Jacobs, has stated that his client denies the allegations. Jacobs emphasized that the indictment does not implicate Mayor Small in any official misconduct related to his role as mayor of Atlantic City. Despite the legal proceedings, Mayor Small has no intention of resigning from his position.
The indictment follows initial accusations made against the Smalls five months ago, bringing to light a troubling situation involving the mistreatment of their daughter. The legal process will now unfold as the couple faces the serious charges brought against them.
