Ingrid Lewis-Martin, Smiling, Is Surrounded By Two Officers As She Leaves A Car In The Dark.

Former Top Aide to Mayor Adams and Son Facing Charges in Corruption Case

Ingrid Lewis-Martin, former mayor’s chief adviser, faces charges in a bribery scandal involving $100,000 for a new Porsche for her son.

Manhattan prosecutors have brought charges against Ingrid Lewis-Martin, the former chief adviser to Mayor Eric Adams, in connection with a bribery conspiracy. The allegations involve two businessmen giving her and her son $100,000 in cash, which her son used to purchase a Porsche and other luxury items. In exchange, Lewis-Martin was accused of using her influence to intervene with city regulators on behalf of the businessmen.

The indictment, consisting of four counts, details a scheme of bribery, money laundering, and conspiracy. It alleges that Lewis-Martin leveraged her official position to sway decisions made by the Department of Buildings and other city agencies in return for financial benefits for herself and her son. Prosecutors claim that Lewis-Martin and her son accepted financial support from the businessmen for various business endeavors, such as a clothing line and a Chick-fil-A franchise, in exchange for her assistance with their projects. The indictment states that after the businessmen provided $100,000 to Martin in August 2023, he deposited the funds into a joint account shared with Lewis-Martin.

The charges were revealed and discussed at a news conference by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg and City Department of Investigation Commissioner Jocelyn Strauber. Lewis-Martin, her son, and the two businessmen, Mayank Dwivedi and Raizada Vaid, turned themselves in and were scheduled for arraignment later in the day.

This is an ongoing investigation, and further updates will be provided as the story develops.
