Gotti Grandson Pleads Guilty to Covid Relief Fraud: Latest Updates

US attorney accuses Carmine G. Agnello of exploiting pandemic for personal gain.

Carmine G. Agnello Jr., the grandson of notorious mob boss John Gotti, has pleaded guilty to fraudulently obtaining over $1 million in Covid relief funds, which he then invested in cryptocurrency. The 38-year-old was charged with wire fraud in a federal courthouse in Central Islip, Long Island, and could face up to 30 years in prison and a $2.2 million fine.

According to United States Attorney Breon S. Peace, Agnello exploited the pandemic to enrich himself, an act described as shameful. During his court appearance, Agnello appeared somber and answered the judge’s questions with brief responses. He was accompanied by his lawyer, James R. Froccaro Jr., and was visibly relieved when his mother, Victoria Gotti, arrived in court.

Victoria Gotti, wearing knee-high boots and carrying a designer bag, described her son as her “song” during the court proceedings. After the hearing, Agnello left the courthouse without speaking to the media, driving off in a luxury Mercedes Maybach.

The case against Agnello highlights the misuse of Covid relief funds and the consequences of fraudulent activities during a national crisis. It serves as a reminder of the importance of ethical behavior and compliance with the law, especially in times of emergency.
