In Brooklyn, a Jewish man named Izak Kadosh was recently arrested and charged with attempted murder and hate crimes for attacking his Muslim neighbor over a period of several months. The incident culminated in Mr. Kadosh breaking into his neighbor’s apartment and striking him with a mallet, causing internal bleeding. The attack led to Mr. Kadosh facing over 40 charges, including attempted murder, aggravated harassment, hate-crime assault, and intent to damage property. Despite pleading not guilty to all charges, Mr. Kadosh was given a bail of $25,000 cash or a $125,000 partially secured bond and is currently held on Rikers Island awaiting his next court appearance on Friday.
The victim of the attack, Ahmed Faycal Chebira, revealed that the harassment began shortly after he moved into the Crown Heights neighborhood building in October. Mr. Chebira, who hails from Algeria, recounted how Mr. Kadosh would insult him with derogatory terms and even spit on him, despite Mr. Chebira expressing his desire to be left alone and emphasizing his respect for everyone’s religious beliefs. Mr. Chebira expressed relief upon learning of Mr. Kadosh’s arrest, as he feared for his safety while the perpetrator was at large.
