Pop star fined $500 and ordered to do 25 hours of community service at a charity of his choice
Justin Timberlake, the popular singer, recently pleaded guilty to driving while impaired after being arrested for drunken driving in the Hamptons in June. In a plea deal, Timberlake agreed to pay a $500 fine, perform 25 hours of community service for a charity of his choice, and have his driver’s license suspended for 90 days in New York. Originally facing charges of driving while intoxicated, Timberlake appeared in a small courthouse in Sag Harbor wearing a black cardigan and khaki slacks.
During the court hearing, Timberlake expressed remorse for his actions and admitted to making a mistake by driving instead of using a taxi or getting a ride from a friend. The judge overseeing the case, Justice Carl Irace, suggested that Timberlake engage in a period of reflection and contemplation through community service rather than a public safety announcement against drinking and driving. Timberlake agreed to this suggestion, acknowledging his error in judgment.
Justice Irace praised Timberlake for his sincerity and questioned the absence of drug and alcohol counseling in the plea deal, though he did not require it as a condition. Timberlake’s case serves as a reminder of the consequences of driving under the influence and the importance of taking responsibility for one’s actions.
