Discover the transformation of a full floor at the Sherry-Netherland into an apartment that blends European grandeur with downtown loft vibes.
Discover the breathtaking transformation of an entire floor at the iconic Sherry-Netherland building on Fifth Avenue in New York City. Renowned interior designer Martin Brûlé was tasked with converting this 11,000 square foot space into a luxurious and eclectic living environment for a family of five. The result is a stunning blend of uptown sophistication and downtown artistic flair, reminiscent of a New York loft but with a dreamy and opulent twist.
Brûlé’s design concept revolves around open-plan living, with expansive spaces separated by grand custom-forged steel pocket doors. The apartment features a mix of 18th- and 19th-century European antiques, Modernist furniture from the 1930s and ’40s, and a rich array of vibrant velvets, silks, and satins. The central sitting room exudes elegance and connects seamlessly to a dining room evocative of postwar Parisian decadence, as well as an industrial-inspired kitchen. A luxurious lounge and screening room lead to a celestial primary suite and a lavish boudoir.
Known for his understated color palettes and precise geometries, Brûlé embraced a more colorful and textured approach for this project, at the client’s request. The client sought furnishings that would evoke feelings of joy and brightness while showcasing exquisite craftsmanship. Brûlé drew inspiration from post-World War II Parisian socialites and tastemakers, such as Emilio Terry and Arturo Lopez-Willshaw, who embraced lavish living and grandeur without restraint.
The design aesthetic of the apartment reflects a return to opulence and excess, drawing on the extravagant styles of the 18th and 19th centuries. Brûlé’s vision captures the essence of a bygone era when luxury and flamboyance reigned supreme, offering a modern reinterpretation of historical grandeur within a contemporary setting.
Immerse yourself in the world of high-end design and luxury living as you explore this remarkable residence that marries the charm of a New York loft with the elegance of a Parisian salon. Experience the fusion of artistry, history, and sophistication in every corner of this meticulously curated space, where every detail tells a story of timeless beauty and refined taste.
