His resignation will be effective at the end of Friday, marking the end of his career at the department, just over a year after being appointed by Mayor Eric Adams in July 2023. This sudden departure highlights the turmoil within the mayor’s administration, which has been the subject of multiple federal investigations targeting high-ranking officials. The investigation involving the city’s top law enforcement official raised concerns about Caban’s ability to effectively oversee the department and make disciplinary decisions regarding the 36,000 officers under his command.
