Site developer near U.N. plans “Path of Liberty” installation as he awaits casino decision.
The latest interactive installation near the United Nations is part of a plan by the Soloviev Group, a development firm considering building a casino on a six-plus-acre site. The installation, titled “Path of Liberty: That Which United Us,” is a celebration of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, set to open in the spring of 2026. The display will feature giant video screens and interviews from across the country, underwritten by the company’s charitable arm.
As preparations for the installation are underway, the casino project faces competition from at least 10 other firms vying for a license to build up to three new casinos in the New York City area. Proposals are being considered for various locations, including Hudson Yards, Citi Field, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Times Square. However, a new opposition has emerged against a proposed casino by Caesars Entertainment, SL Green, and Roc Nation in Times Square, with the United Federation of Teachers joining a coalition against the project.
In other news, the suspect in the fatal shooting of a health insurance executive on a Midtown street has been identified, and investigations are ongoing. With Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa approaching, Michael Hershman is already looking ahead to the semiquincentennial celebration in 2026, marking the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. Stay tuned for more updates on these developments and other news in the coming weeks.
