Lt. Gov. Antonio Delgado is charting his own political course, raising the possibility of clashes with Gov. Kathy Hochul.
In the months leading up to the recent election, Lt. Gov. Antonio Delgado’s schedule was packed with campaign events rather than the usual duties associated with his position. He actively campaigned for Democratic candidates in battleground districts and even supported Vice President Kamala Harris in Pennsylvania. Additionally, he established a super PAC that contributed nearly $300,000 to Democratic causes.
Since the election, Mr. Delgado has continued to make his voice heard through opinion pieces in newspapers and appearances on television shows like “Morning Joe.” In his writings, he emphasizes the need for new leadership within the Democratic Party and a departure from traditional political narratives.
Despite being chosen as Lt. Gov. by Gov. Kathy Hochul, Mr. Delgado has been operating independently, sparking rumors of a potential challenge to Ms. Hochul in the 2026 gubernatorial race. While he has denied any immediate plans to run against her, he has expressed a desire to be prepared for any future opportunities and maintain his independence in the political arena.
