Serial killer charged with second-degree murder in the case of Valerie Mack who vanished in 2000.
Rex Heuermann, the architectural consultant accused in the Gilgo Beach serial killings, was indicted on Tuesday morning for his alleged involvement in the murder of Valerie Mack in 2000. Prosecutors claim that Heuermann created a disturbing planning document in 2000 outlining his methods of hunting, torturing, and killing humans, which he reportedly used to end Mack’s life that same year. This latest charge adds to the seven murder charges Heuermann faces since his arrest last year.
The case surrounding the Gilgo Beach serial killings has captured public interest since 2010 when the bodies of women started being discovered along the Long Island shore. Six of the women Heuermann is accused of killing were found at Gilgo Beach, with another victim found nearby in Southampton. Despite his repeated pleas of not guilty, Heuermann’s charges continue to increase as the case progresses towards trial.
During his recent court appearance, Heuermann maintained his innocence, stating, “Your honor, I’m not guilty of any of these charges.” This declaration was met with skepticism from the relatives of the victims present at the hearing. Prosecutors allege that Heuermann’s methods of dismembering and disposing of Ms. Mack were in line with the techniques outlined in his planning document and reflected in his collection of violent and bondage pornography.
