A man from Queens, Eduardo Diaz, aged 42, was arrested on Friday and charged with shooting another man in broad daylight on a Manhattan street, as reported by the police. The incident took place near 68th Street and Columbus Avenue on the Upper West Side at around 9 a.m. The shooting had a significant impact on transit services as the gunman fled into a nearby subway station, leading to delays and disruptions in train services across the system. Commuters were forced to seek shelter on subway car floors as the police conducted a search for the suspect.
Eduardo Diaz faces charges of attempted murder, assault, and criminal possession of a weapon. He was a resident of Queens and was awaiting arraignment on Friday. The altercation leading to the shooting reportedly occurred between Diaz and the victim, a 47-year-old man, who were co-workers at a computer sales and repair shop on 68th Street called Lincoln Business Machines. The argument escalated, resulting in the victim being shot in the leg and shoulder. He was taken to a hospital and was reported to be in stable condition.
Following the shooting, the gunman fled into the 72nd Street station. The police took precautions by shutting off electrical power to the station to prevent any accidents or injuries while conducting the search for the suspect.
