Democratic challenger Sue Altman’s campaign gains $4 million support as she closes in on Republican incumbent Thomas Kean Jr. in polls.
In the highly contested New Jersey congressional race for a swing district, Republican incumbent Thomas Kean Jr. has been receiving support from America PAC, a political action committee founded by Elon Musk. Additionally, the Republican Congressional Leadership Fund has been running ads portraying Kean’s Democratic challenger, Sue Altman, as a “radical liberal.” Recent polls indicate a narrowing gap between the candidates, prompting Democrats to intensify their efforts to support Altman.
The House Majority PAC, the campaign arm of House Democrats aiming to regain the majority, has made a significant monetary contribution to Altman. They have committed to spending approximately $4 million in the final two weeks of the race and released their first TV ad in support of her. This move comes after public criticism of the lack of national Democratic Party funding for Altman and a close poll showing Kean with only a two-point lead.
New Jersey Governor Philip D. Murphy, a Democrat, has also urged support for Altman by reaching out to Representative Hakeem Jeffries, the House Democratic leader. Murphy emphasized the tightness of the race and the momentum Altman has gained, leading to the House Majority PAC’s decision to inject $4 million into her campaign.
In the competitive race for the swing district congressional seat in New Jersey, both Republican incumbent Thomas Kean Jr. and Democratic challenger Sue Altman are receiving substantial support from political action committees and campaign arms. With the race tightening and recent polls indicating a close margin between the candidates, the influx of funding and resources from the House Majority PAC could potentially impact the outcome of the election.
