The closure of the restaurant and gift shop, along with a stagnant operating budget and reduced acquisitions budget, has further hindered the museum’s ability to thrive.
In addition to financial struggles, the museum is also facing allegations of fraudulent activity by a high-ranking official in pursuit of excess federal grant money. This has prompted state authorities to launch an investigation into the matter.
Assemblywoman Patricia Fahy, representing the district where the museum is located, has expressed frustration over the state of the institution. She believes that as the capital of New York, Albany should have a vibrant and culturally rich state museum that can rival those found in major cities like New York City.
